The original IEEE 1164 standard document is © IEEE, and is not publicly available and was not used in relation to the diffo ieee1164 work.

The IEEE published the std_logic_1164 VHDL in 1993 and made it widely available, initially without a license. The Apache 2.0 license was retrofitted at some later point — it was only approved in 2004. The exact history is unknown to us.

Copyright in each generation is held by its contributors, as recorded in the version-control history of the respective project.

The diffo-dev ieee1164 maintainers acknowledge and thank the authors and contributors of IEEE 1164. Their lived knowledge was foundational to the realisation of almost all modern digital systems. We deeply value their contribution, and humbly apologise if we have done anything other than honour the spirit and meaning of IEEE P1076 lore.
