Kafka protocol AlterPartition message

Request versions summary:

  • Version 1 adds LeaderRecoveryState field (KIP-704).
  • Version 2 adds TopicId field to replace TopicName field (KIP-841).
  • Version 3 adds the NewIsrEpochs field and deprecates the NewIsr field (KIP-903).

Response versions summary:

  • Version 1 adds LeaderRecoveryState field (KIP-704).
  • Version 2 adds TopicId field to replace TopicName field, can return the following new errors: INELIGIBLE_REPLICA, NEW_LEADER_ELECTED and UNKNOWN_TOPIC_ID (KIP-841).
  • Version 3 is the same as version 2 (KIP-903).

Response content fields:

  • throttle_time_ms: The duration in milliseconds for which the request was throttled due to a quota violation, or zero if the request did not violate any quota. (int32 | versions 0+)

  • error_code: The top level response error code (int16 | versions 0+)

  • topics: ([]TopicData | versions 0+)

    • topic_name: The name of the topic (string | versions 0-1)

    • topic_id: The ID of the topic (uuid | versions 2+)

    • partitions: ([]PartitionData | versions 0+)

      • partition_index: The partition index (int32 | versions 0+)

      • error_code: The partition level error code (int16 | versions 0+)

      • leader_id: The broker ID of the leader. (int32 | versions 0+)

      • leader_epoch: The leader epoch. (int32 | versions 0+)

      • isr: The in-sync replica IDs. ([]int32 | versions 0+)

      • leader_recovery_state: 1 if the partition is recovering from an unclean leader election; 0 otherwise. (int8 | versions 1+)

      • partition_epoch: The current epoch for the partition for KRaft controllers. The current ZK version for the legacy controllers. (int32 | versions 0+)

Input content fields:

  • broker_id: The ID of the requesting broker (int32 | versions 0+)

  • broker_epoch: The epoch of the requesting broker (int64 | versions 0+)

  • topics: ([]TopicData | versions 0+)

    • topic_name: The name of the topic to alter ISRs for (string | versions 0-1)

    • topic_id: The ID of the topic to alter ISRs for (uuid | versions 2+)

    • partitions: ([]PartitionData | versions 0+)

      • partition_index: The partition index (int32 | versions 0+)

      • leader_epoch: The leader epoch of this partition (int32 | versions 0+)

      • new_isr: The ISR for this partition. Deprecated since version 3. ([]int32 | versions 0-2)

      • new_isr_with_epochs: ([]BrokerState | versions 3+)

        • broker_id: The ID of the broker. (int32 | versions 3+)

        • broker_epoch: The epoch of the broker. It will be -1 if the epoch check is not supported. (int64 | versions 3+)

      • leader_recovery_state: 1 if the partition is recovering from an unclean leader election; 0 otherwise. (int8 | versions 1+)

      • partition_epoch: The expected epoch of the partition which is being updated. For legacy cluster this is the ZkVersion in the LeaderAndIsr request. (int32 | versions 0+)
