# Datasets

Tribunal supports dataset-driven evaluations from JSON and YAML files. This allows you to maintain test cases separately from code and run batch evaluations.

## File Formats

### JSON

## Schema

Each item in the dataset can have:

| Field | Type | Description |
|-------|------|-------------|
| `input` | string | The query/prompt (required) |
| `context` | string or list | Ground truth context for faithfulness/hallucination |
| `expected_output` | string | Golden answer for correctness/similarity |
| `expected` | object | Assertions to run (see below) |
| `metadata` | object | Additional data (latency, tokens, etc.) |

## Assertion Definitions

The `expected` field maps assertion types to their options:

Single value:

## Loading Datasets

### Basic Loading

## ExUnit Integration

Generate tests from datasets automatically:

defmodule MyApp.EvalTest do
  use ExUnit.Case
  use Tribunal.EvalCase

  tribunal_eval "test/evals/datasets/questions.json"
end
```

This generates one test per item in the dataset.

### With Provider

A provider function generates the actual output from the input:

  provider: {MyApp.RAG, :query}
```

The provider is called as `MyApp.RAG.query(input)` for each test case.

### With Defaults

Set default options for all assertions:

## CLI Usage

Run evaluations from the command line:

Initialize the structure with example files:
